Summer draws to a close here in the northern hemisphere, and after a particularly hot one where I'm at I've got my mind towards cooler weather. Until then, I'll have to settle for cooler virtual weather. And so will you! With the new Cooloff update for Interalios.
Take a chill pill with some new monsters, moves and the new type Ice!
The big addition to this update is a new type: Ice! Previously, ice was kind of a sub-type with Water. With regards to elemental systems, some games make the differentiation, others don't. For a while I was in the Don't camp, but honestly as time went on and more monsters started popping up, the type pool seemed a little too shallow. Initially I had considered making Ice a trait similar to how some moves have a Toxic trait to fill in the sort-of "Poison" element but I've now come around to the idea that even if a type has a small depth of users, the variation provides a more interesting universe regarding monster interactions. In other words, more variety in types results in more interesting gameplay. At least so I hope.
Two new pure Ice type monsters have been added: The Ice mage, Frossaker and the brutish snow beast, Snowmaw. Additionally, an older monster, Preika, has been reclassified as Body/Ice type. Their toolsets have been expanded a bit now too with some new moves. Some moves provide utility, like Ice Shield which raises a user's Resistance at the expense of their speed and evasion. Others provide more reliable ice type damage dealing opportunities like Cold Wave, an average damage dealing Magic move. Strike while the opponent is unsuspecting with a quick Sleet Tackle, an increased priority Ice type move!
Check the changelog below for a full list of changes that appear in this update!
Anyway, Ice may be the first new type but it won't be the last. Future updates may include some more types as well, so stay tuned.
